Summer Season Board: Lightning Bugs

Of course we had to do lightning bugs! Or are they fireflies where you are from? Quite the debate on what to call these little guys with the glowy butts, but this one is based on the Common Eastern Firefly (Photinus pyralis) since we are in Ohio.

After coloring, we added some glow in the dark puffy paint to their rear ends for added fun.

Claire got to cut out her own wings and I think she did a great job! If you have older kids, you could add some white tissue paper under the outer wing for added realism. We used brass fasteners to hold them on.
