Spring Season Board: Dandelions
Found almost everywhere, Dandelions are a great first flower to learn about. But first up, the craft!
Something simple but engaging, this craft helps bring the dandelion to life. I used the coloring page found at Supercoloring.com, yellow construction paper, and a brass fastener. For each flower a cut a 1”, 1.5”, and 2” circle. I then poked a hole in the middle and cut around the edges to make the petals. If your child is skilled with scissors, you can certainly have them do this part.
Next up, coloring! While the girls colored, I told them some fun facts - mainly that dandelion is edible and both of them did nibble on a leaf! Here are some you can pick from:
Scientific name: Taraxacum officinale
All parts of the flowers are edible.
You can use the flowers to make tea/wine.
You can drag the flowers around to color.
It is not native to North America
Once they were done coloring, we stacked the circles from largest to smallest and secured them with a brass fastener. Both girls were very proud to display their craft and wanted to go look for dandelions in the yard.
